Root Planning
Root Planing is a deep dental cleaning procedure used to treat gum disease and prevent further damage to the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. When plaque and tartar build up below the gum line, bacteria can cause inflammation and infection, leading to gum disease.
During the procedure, the dentist carefully removes plaque, bacteria, and hardened tartar from the roots of the teeth. The root surfaces are then smoothed to help the gums reattach to the teeth and reduce the chances of further bacterial buildup. Root planing is usually recommended for patients with gingivitis or early to moderate periodontal disease.
This treatment helps reduce gum inflammation, control infection, and improve overall oral health while preventing the progression of gum disease.
